How often should I get my oil changed?

The time-tested wisdom is to change your car's engine oil every three months or 3,000 miles, but with modern cars you can often go longer in between changes. Each car is different and some can go anywhere from 3,000-10,000 miles before needing a change. Check your owner's manual to see the manufacturer's recommendation, or contact us and we'll give you our personalized recommendation.

How can I tell if I need my brakes replaced?

Generally brakes should be replaced after about 50,000 miles, but you should always be able to check if there are signs of early wear. You can check for brake wear by looking at your brake pads through your wheel's spokes; there should be at least a quarter inch of pad against the metal rotor. You should also bring your brakes in if you hear a high-pitched screeching sound regularly.

How often does my air filter need to be changed?

Your air filter should be replaced between 15,000 and 30,000 miles, depending on your vehicle. Driving on unpaved roads or other areas with debris in the air means you should change it out more frequently. Replace it every three years even if you do not drive much as it turns brittle.

How often should my vehicle's fluid levels be checked?

Check your fluids twice a year during the changes of seasons. Bringing your car in for regular maintenance at the beginnings of summer and winter will help keep your fluids clean and at the right level.

What does my Check Engine light mean?

Your Check Engine light turning on is a common headache, and it can mean a variety of things. It could be something as minor as a damaged spark-plug or a broken fuel cap, but it can also signal something more serious like a damaged catalytic convertor. Luckily we have a tool that will quickly identify the problem, so bring your Check Engine light prblems into our San Rafael dealership.

How can I tell if I need new tires?

It's dangerous to drive on tires without tread, so when your tires start to wear it's important to bring them into our Service Center. You can do an easy test at home by taking a penny and inserting Lincoln's head upside down, if any of his forehead is showing, then it's time for some new tires.

How much extra fuel is burned when using air conditioning?

Your air conditioning burns an extra mile or two per gallon when you're driving. If you notice some poor performance in the summer it could just be the air conditioning, but if it's more than just a mile or two of inefficiency, then it is likely a different issue.

How often should I change out my spark plugs?

Spark plugs are a cheap, easy fix that should be replaced every 30,000 miles. It is very important to stay on top of your spark plugs, because even though they are a cheap fix, broken ones can damage the catalytic convertor, a very pricey item.

Are old cars better than today's cars?

Many drivers wonder if vehicles today are somehow inferior to older cars and trucks, but in reality, modern vehicles run much longer and more reliably. A lot of the bias towards old cars comes from how easy they were to fix on your own, but with more advanced technologies we recommend bringing your work into a pro. Fortunately at Audi Marin, we give you a quick, painless repair experience, so stop by today and see for yourself.
